Red, along with countless other trainers had arrived to the island, none knowing what to really expect. However, rather than finding a huge deserted island, it seemed as though Auburn Island was actually teeming with life. It was quite apparent during the airship ride over the city that there were definitely a great number of people on the island.
However, this wasn't all fun and games. There was work to be done, hence why he was in the Pokemon Center and nowhere else. After all, he had to confirm his registration in the tournament. This would be the second time the Pokemon League tried to restart itself, but hopefully things wouldn't end up like last time.
"Red from Pallet Town? Yes, I see. Welcome to the Auburn Island Tournament and good luck!." The young woman at the front counter said as she overlooked his paperwork, stamping a small I.D. card. Now that he was all registered, he could finally relax, sitting down on one of the various comfortable couches in the lobby.
Pikachu simply perched upon the young man's head, looking around lazily as trainers came and went. They were both pooped from the long journey, yet resting seemed like a luxury of sorts. Especially when they could have been training.

"It's quite the surprise to see you here," Blue would say, her hands on her hips. She stood right behind Red, looking down at him as he sat comfortably on the couch. She had her Charizard standing there right next to her, and his expression was just as skeptical. Red looked much too relaxed. She couldn't understand why... or how he was even here. She crossed her arms, waiting for Red to turn back.
"It's much too soon. You're not really cut out for this type of competition," she said to him, with some degree of genuine concern. She knew he'd probably try to force his way through the battles regardless of what she said, but Blue still felt like she needed to get it out in the open. She didn't want to see him get hurt again.
"Or for battling in general."

He had barely been on the island for an hour and already someone from his past was attempting to ruin his good time by pestering him. Of course, it just had to be Blue, one of his so called childhood friends. Then again, he had long since severed his ties to likes of people such as Blue and Green as well. But to come at him with such words, she should have really minded her own damn business.
"Oh, someone let you out of the kitchen?" That was really his only response. She was the type of female he disliked, the one who stuck their noses in other people's business without anyone asking them to. It was as though she was entitled to give her opinion at all times despite no one wanting to listen. It was that kind of attitude that really ticked him off.
Either way, he wouldn't satisfy her with a real answer. Especially with Charizard hanging over him as well, seemingly mocking Red. If only Charizard had been his, things would have been so much different.
"I never would have guessed there was an island between your kitchen and the bathroom. Interesting." He made another off topic, sexist remark, only to annoy her.

Blue was almost taken by shock at his response. Her reaction would be visible. She was a bit confused to think that he would even dare to talk to her like that. He was trying to piss her off. She could tell, and yet, it was also starting to work. She lowered her hands to her sides and clenched her fists, the anger building up and her cheeks turning a bit red.
"Don't you dare mock me! I belong here more than you do," Blue would say. She was obviously getting quite steamed right now. However, she took a deep breath. She wouldn't allow her anger to get the best of her. She wanted to stay calm and rational, but it was hard when he was saying things like that.
"I'm just trying to make sure that you don't fill up yet another cemetary," Blue would say to him, now much more calm than she had previously been. She shrugged her shoulders. "The least you could do is die with your Pokemon. I wonder how they all died but you're still fine and dandy."

Good, he was making her angry, thst was definitely a positive. However, he remained expressionless though he was quite happy at that response he had gotten out of her. Serves her right for trying to attack him, especially when she was too arrogant to look at the bigger picture.
While she spoke, he barely listened to watch she said nor did he look at her. Pikachu didn't even cast a gaze at the girl's direction. It was almost as though what she was saying was going in one ear and directly out of the other. If anything, he had enough of her crap. If only he was a person full of rage would he hit her, granted he wanted to. "It is always easy to blame someone if you weren't there. Not that you wanted to be there when I faced Team Rocket and Giovanni alone." He said rather plainly, looking out of the windows and out into the city.
"After all, your now meaningless trophy and title was so important. Yet you want to reap the benefits of my pokemon's deaths. Without them, there would be no league right now. Without them you would be nothing but a little girl back in Pallet Town doing nothing with her life except having some stuck rich kid's children, being a stay at home mother." He adjusted his hat slightly, though it was quite difficult considering Pikachu was sitting on his head. Red poked the little mouse's cheek with his index finger gently, which he responded with biting Red's finger.
"But like I said, out of sight...out of mind. Just as long as you have your league and pretend to be superior to others. Right champ? Or is it chump? Or is it desperate housewife?" Calm exterior, cool interior, yet somehow tension was thick in the air all the same.

Just as Blue was about to apologize for having said such harsh words concerning his pokemon, he went and said something so ludicrous. He made it sound as though she had abandoned him, when she had done nothing of the sort. She was growing even more angry now. She couldn't even maintain her composure now. Charizard just stood there, waiting and curious as to what his trainer would do next.
"Desperate housewife?" She repeated again. She had worked hard for everything she had earned, and just because she had been unable to fight Giovanni in the end didn't mean that she hadn't played a major part in the battle against Team Rocket. She had fought many of their executives and higher ranked members as well. She didn't think anything was wrong with being a housewife or anything like that, but his tone of voice was just sickening.
"I dare you to stand up and say that again to my face!" She said again. At this point, Charizard only looked curiously. He could tell that his trainer was getting really pissed and he was concerned. He didn't usually get to see her angry, and he didn't like it much.
"I dare you!"

A slight smirk spread across his face, the closest thing to a smile that Pikachu has seen from Red in nearly six months. It wasn't that the situation was funny or interest, but rather Blue's reactions were amusing. She was such a petty person or at least he seemed to think so. He used to think nothing but good things about her, yet now...his perspective easily shifted. She didn't deserve Charizard, not in the slightest. Yet this was the hand he was dealt, hence why he only had Pikachu left.
The smirk faded away rather quickly. "Even now, you're pretending to be superior. It's kind of pathetic, how you always want to pretend you're the big boss." The only reason she became champion was because he wasn't there, at least that was his thought on that topic. He could have crushed her hands down.
"I'll say it to your face when you're my level. Right now, you're nobody. Just a little girl with a big charizard and an even bigger ego. A champion of a forgotten, failed league."
Pikachu began laughing aloud, followed by Red's laughter which they both cut short. God, Blue was just so stupid.

Red was saying so many cold things to her about so many of the things that she held so much value in. And then on top of that, he refused her dare to stand up. Not on the same level? Did he really think that? She was almost about to cry about what he has said. She could feel the tears coming, but she calmed down, remembering that it hardly mattered anyway.
"I'm not the nobody. You are. And I'll prove it here in this tournament," Blue would say with all seriousness. This time they would meet in combat. She was sure of it. This time they would get to show who had the better pokemon and who was the better trainer overall and once and for all.
"We'll meet in battle... And that's when I'll show you that we're in two different leagues," Blue scoffed before turning around. She's walk off in the opposite direction and to the door of the pokecenter. Charizard shrugged his shoulders and followed her.
"Charizard and I have better things to do than waste our time with you, unless you're finally ready to back up your words with some action. If you grow some balls and stop being a wuss, meet me outside and we can settle this."

She couldn't be at all serious. He was the nobody? So that was why he was the one trying to bully her while she was resting on a couch, minding her business? Oh wait, that was the other way around. Red had been enjoying himself when she decided to make a series of personal attacks on him. She disgusted him to the point where the mere mention of the fact that they grew up together would make him sick.
"I have nothing to prove to you, after all you're the one who instigated all of this, aren't you? What do you have to prove to me?" The male finally got up, casting an uncaring eye toward the stupid girl. Right now, he hated her more than anything else in the world, yet his stoic expression would tell otherwise.
"If you were a real friend, you'd support me rather than cut me down. That's why I tossed our friendship in the garbage a long time ago. You and Green mean nothing to me anymore." Pikachu relocated to his right shoulder, finally appearing somewhat perky. Red wasn't afraid of Blue or anything like that, but he was a man of principles, an old fashioned trainer.

Blue stopped walking after hearing his voice again. She did want to hear what he had to say, as much as she wanted to pretend not to, but she didn't turn around. Charizard would stop as well, right behind Blue, despite the fact of how much he wanted to keep walking and bring Blue out with him to end the confrontation. She held her fists clenched still.
"I was not cutting you down... At least, I wasn't trying to at first. I'm just worried about you and your pokemon," she admitted to him. It was the truth ,after all. She didn't want to see all of his pokemon get hurt again, and she didn't know how well he'd be able to handle the pressure in this kind of tournament.
"Your pokemon could die here, and I don't know what that would do to you... psychologically. You're not the same person any more, Red. Not the same as you used to be," she said to him. She still stood with her back facing toward him, only a good three meters away.
"You're much more withdrawn, and I'm sure it has to do with what's happened to you. Things are going to be hard in this tournament, Red. If you're not careful, your pokemon could get hurt, badly."

"You're right, I am different now. I'm stronger. I realize now that the fates of others or everyone in general no longer means anything to me. I can't save everyone nor can I always uphold the things I believe in, no matter how detrimental it might to others. I can't do it all." Yes, he learned his lesson, he had learned to become selfish through experiencing loss for the greater good. Why should others benefit from the sacrifices of a few? It wasn't fair, not even close. He definitely learned his lesson.
"I'm not a hero. He may have defeated Team Rocket and was able to save the futures of countless trainers, but it meant nothing now. Not when he had lodt so much, not when his pokemon all died for the sake of those who are not appreciative. They died for nothing and it was his fault for not being able to control them better. So what if the world was saved. So what if a new League was able to be created...
"I refuse to help anyone other than myself or my pokemon. That's the path to victory. I'll blaze my path to the top in a trail of my enemies' broken dreams, just like everyone else..."
He knew it was wrong to think that way, however it was the only logical way to go about things. After all, being selfless got him nowhere.

Blue knew that he had changed, but she also knew that it hadn't been for the better. At one point in time they had been friends. At one point in time she had liked him. She didn't any more. She didn't want to have anything to do with him. She despised what he had become, but she didn't hate him, as much as she wanted to. They simply had too much history. In any case, her attempt at trying to scare him or make him lose interest in the tournament had done no good.
"That's sad, Red," she said quite sincerely. Blue really didn't know what else to say more than this though. She didn't think anything she would say would change his perspective on life. He was much too depressing for her. She had nothing else to say.
"I'll show you what it truly means to be strong, Red, and it's not fighting selfishly for yourself. You used to know what it meant to be strong, even though you made many mistakes and many bad choices. You were a hero," she'd admitted, though it pained her to do so right now. Still, she thought he had acted much too rashly in fighting team rocket, always thinking he had to do everything by himself.
"You're biggest fault was that you felt you had to do everything by yourself. You should have called me and Green. We would have come to help. If I had known, I would have been there as quickly as possible. You didn't have to go fight Giovanni all alone. I helped you beat the Rockets the first time, don't forget."

"That's bull and you know it." He interjected, an annoyed look upon his face, finally showing a hint of emotion at this point. If that were the case, then he'd still have his pokemon and he wouldn't be in the situation that he was currently in. He hated how she kept judging him, kept pretending she was better than him. As a matter of fact, he took that hatred a bit further than that. He could almost say he hated her...maybe.
"Fighting for what I believed in. Fighting for the sake of the freedom of others and the existence of the Pokemon League meant nothing, none of it. You say that being selfish isn't right yet you keep criticizing me for losing my pokemon in the struggle to keep the world a good place?!" She was contradicting herself now, pissing Red off finally. He'd slam his right hand through the glass table he stood by, his hand going through although not without cutting his hand. "Tch. There was no point in bothering either of you. Especially you. You would have called me weak for needing you. Just like you call me weak for any other reason you can come up with. You guys both started out pretty well, satisfied with what you were given. But I had to work twive as hard for what I had. I lost my best friends, they'll never be by my side again. Yet...nevermind." Red looked away from Blue, angry at this point. His emotions were so intense, so raw, but it didn't matter. It never mattered, not even when he lost his pokemon did his feelings matter. After all, no one was there.
He clenched his bleeding hand, balling it into a tight fist.

Blue just couldn't talk to Red. He was much too angry for her to reason with right now. She almost didn't even feel safe around him, but she knew she had nothing to worry about so long as she had her Charizard at her side. Nonetheless, she didn't want to sit here and argue with him. And the truth was, none of her pokemon had died or been hurt in the battle against Team Rocket. Her Gyarados had belonged to a Rocket member, and she had nursed it back from close to dead, but, it wasn't quite the same. She hadn't known Gyarados before it had been mortally wounded.
"Sorry, but you are weak. Physically... and your Pokemon are weak too," Blue said sincerely. This was truly how she felt. She really believed that her pokemon were much better than his were, and had ever been, but she didn't think that was all that mattered.
"But physical strength isn't all that matters, Red. You have a strong heart, or you used to. And your pokemon inherited that from you," she said a bit sheepishly.
"I think you're a natural born hero who lacks the strength to back up his actions."

He had always been told he was a rather decent training, considering the majority of his pokemon were full evolved, that is until they died. Actually, the only pokemon that survived the final battle with the Rockets were the ones that weren't fully evolved. But such things as evolution meant nothing to him, they never really did. However, he wouldn't allow her to insult his pokemon, not when they were dead. Trampling on him was one thing, but to trample on the good names of his pokemon? That was taking it too far in his opinion.
"How dare you insult my pokemon?! Don't you have any respect for the fallen?!" He clenched his fist even tighter, blood now dripping down upon the floor in a rhythm of repeated drops. Though he ignored the pain, it meant nothing. Even Pikachu was becoming riled up at this point, electricity discharging from its cheeks at random intervals of time. To think, Pikachu was the calmer of the two and yet he wanted to also slit Blue's throat.
"You call me and my pokemon physically weak, yet you hide your insignificant self behind that large Charizard, you're pathetic. You really are. This is why I've grown to hate you, you've become a person I cannot respect or even consider a person at all. You're only a step below Giovanni. No integrity what so ever." The trainer turned his back to Blue as well, refusing to stare at her back any longer. He knew he'd hit her otherwise.
