Gotta Catch 'em All
Dice System...
The first thing you have to understand is that the staff here use dice. They act as a randomizer for a number of things. To find the dice icon, go to make a post. Look at the Tag list. On the right side of the second row of tags, there is an icon that looks like a die. If you click on it, the Dice code will appear and a random number will be generated between 1 and 6, as the default number of sides is 6. You can modify the number of sides a die has by modifying the code. It usually comes as [*dice=6], but if you change it to [*dice=7], the die will have 7 sides. It is as simple as that.
How to find them...
Posted in each board is a list of which pokemon can be captured there as well as a number next to their. The number represents their rarity. The higher the number, the more rare they are. In order to find a particular pokemon in the wild, that pokemon's number must be rolled on a single die, where you get to pick the number of sides on the die. Of course, this is where rarity comes in. Lets say the pokemon you're looking for is Ralts, and its rarity number is 3. Your best chances for finding Ralts will be on a 3-sided die, as you can only roll 1, 2, or 3. Though, if you pickeda 4-sided die, you could have ended up with 1,2, 3, or 4. You would have had less chances of landing on 3, which was the pokemon you wanted in the first place.
To find a wild pokemon, post your request in the "Wild Pokemon Request" thread. They will post in your thread with a die of the number of sides you requested. Whatever they rolled will decide which pokemon will appear.
Catching Pokemon
Once a staff member has posted in your thread with the information of the pokemon you are to battle, the confrontation begins! Staff will play the wild pokemon, and staff can do so interchangeably. If the staff member who was rping the wild pokemon isn't around, feel free to ask another to continue with you. Either way, each post you do in your thread must be a minimum of two paragraphs long and you may only use one attack per post.
Capturing a pokemon relies on the dice system again. When you throw a pokeball, the staff member will roll a die to determine if the pokemon is captured. The base number of sides on the die for catching pokemon is 25. The number that is rolled determines whether or not the pokemon is captured:
2-8 2-11 2-14 Auto
Increasing your Chances
When battling, their are ways to increase your chances of catching a pokemon. The exact formulas are known only by staff, but here are some general guidelines:
Weakening: Using attacks to weaken a pokemon and tire them out makes a pokemon less capable of fighting back.
Status Conditions: Status conditions such as Sleep, Paralysis, Poison, Burn, and Freeze can be crippling to a pokemon and make it easier to capture. Bare in mind a Pokemon can only have one Status Condition at a time.
Constriction Moves: Moves like Wrap, Bind, Fire Spin, and Whirlpool can restrict a pokemon's movements. Throwing a pokeball while using these moves can increase your chances of catching the pokemon, though the move will usually end if the pokemon breaks free.
Tricks to the Trade
When encountering a wild pokemon, your options are somewhat limited to the following:[/ul]
Attack: Using attacks to weaken a pokemon and tire them out makes a pokemon less capable of fighting back. Attacks that go after status instead of health can also be very effective.
- Retreat Attacks: Attacks such as Roar, Whirlwind, Dragon Tail, and the like can be used to force an enemy pokemon to retreat. If you use one of these attacks, the enemy pokemon will retreat and the die will be rolled again for a new pokemon. You can only do this once a thread for every retreat attack you have. For example, if you have both Roar and Whirlwind, you may used them both in the same thread, but you cannot use Roar twice, even if it's being used by two different pokemon.
- One Hit KO: Moves that are known as One Hit KO's do not faint wild pokemon, but instead kill them!
Catching: You can throw a Pokeball once per turn, but you cannot attack at the same turn.
Stall: You also have the option of stalling. In a stalling post, you neither attack nor try to capture the pokemon.
Pokedoll: You can also use a pokedoll to distract a pokemon and run away. Using a pokedoll allows you to get a second roll and find a new pokemon. Pokedolls can be purchased at the pokemart.
Potions: You may also use a potion to heal your pokemon during a battle. However, in order to get time to use a potion, you'll need another one of your pokemon to battle. Otherwise, the wild pokemon would most likely attack you or the pokemon you're healing. You may also use potions in between wild encounters. Be aware, most trainers don't appreciate use of potions in trainer vs. trainer battles.
Running: Unlike in the videogames. Running will usually not be possible. You must fight
Additional Party Joining: On occasion, someone else may join your catching thread. The following rules must apply though:
- Double Teaming:The Pokemon being fought cannot be outnumbered. If someone new joins your thread, they are to fight the pokemon instead. That is to help you run away or stop you from being defeated. You cannot doubleteam a wild pokemon this way.
- Permission: You must have the permission of both, a moderator and the person in the thread in order to join. No random thread crashing.
- Triple Battles: If two or three people would like, they may do a catching thread together. In this case, a proportional number of wild pokemon will appear. No more than three people can do a catching thread together.
